Simply wearing a chain: a daily artistic performance.

SIMPLY WEARING A CHAIN: a daily artistic performance.

The costume to wear chain-shaped necklaces, indeed made up of one chain link is now, for almost a century, so widespread that "chain"In the world of accessories is now synonymous with"Necklace".

I think it can be attributed to Coco Chanel, not by chance the creator of the costume jewelry (before there were only precious jewels), the introduction of chains primarily in the world of'Accessory, and later in that ofApparel (just think of the finishes of his jackets).

In a type of process that we find recurrent in the poetics of the Chanel style in which they extract themselves structural elements from reality of everyday life, you want for the the features (the pants or the shoulder strap of the bag to have legs and hands free), you want for technical features (the use of fabrics such as jersey)… and I could give you a thousand other examples using all the innovations of Madame Coco as a reference.

In the light of this procedure, I happened to pause to reflect on concept of “Chain"Because in my mind it is now an element so firmly associated with the idea of an accessory to the point that I have forgotten that this is primarily an object with a very specific function: to unite something, to hold something still to something else.

As far as the verb "to chain " you mainly refer to the idea of imprisonment, in my vision, this is instead synonymous with voluntary, strong and indissoluble bond.

Change the scope of an object I voluntarily really perceive it as one art form, and what is art if not a modest attempt at raise our soul and, when art can be worn so easily, because a spell comes to life enclosed between the links of a chain ...

Mine is certainly a biased view, but rendering Accessory a functional element with a specific task in a practical sense, means elevating the latter to a "bearer of beauty", "well-being" as an end in itself, without other expectations, because what is an accessory if not a "tinsel for its own sake "With the sole purpose of make us feel better and satisfy us.

In a reverse proceeding from what Andy Warhol had made with the famous jar of "Campbell Soup" we can feel part of an artistic mechanism even simply wearing a chain necklace.
