Small guide on Magenta

Long live MAGENTA, pantone 2023.

I'll be honest, as soon as I heard the news I turned up my nose, still prey to the vibrations of the Pink PP, I found this shade old, or rather obsolete and at times worthy of disgust.

Una earthy tone, but not enveloping, red, but not vibrant, burgundy, but not princely: a potpourri of negative sensations.

Then, as always, what happens in fashion is that the various trends are developed in relation to the various needs and the result is always interesting: just as in the case of Magenta.

Especially thanks to the comparison with mine #rosacipriagirls, I was infatuated with this color to the point of dedicating a specific analysis to it, and no, not precisely the VIVA MAGENTA, but the magenta tout court.

Magenta: not just one color…

Magenta in this guide will be the umbrella term with which to specifically analyze dtwo families of color: the first with cold undertone and the second with warm undertone.

In the first color family, we find a very bright Magenta palette which we will define for greater precision Orchid colour o Beet, with cold undertone.

For Magenta Orchid the best combinations with which to make it explode are:

  • The various sub-tones of cold pink like candy pink.
  • The various fuchsia even the strongest
  • Metal silver

In the second color family, however, we find a palette of Warmer magenta and enveloping which is precisely that famous one “Long live Magenta” but which we could also define as very close to shades like the Bordeaux or Burgundy.

For Warm magenta the best combinations to make it stand out are:

  • Various light and warm shades contrasting like the beige or ivory
  • Various degraded shades such as i burnished tones
  • Metal gold o pink gold
  • Various warm shades of pink such as powder (absolutely avoid the cold ones mentioned above)

Please note:I chromatic tones, which go well with the first type of Magenta, clash with the second and vice versato. Once you have identified the type of family it belongs to, it will be very easy to choose top combinations for your Magenta.

How to avoid too dark an effect

Thanks to the use of this tone in the winter season, a combination full of charm and truly lush is the one with the black: with the only catch of appearing a little too gloomy and dark for some of us.

To avoid for this last effect, just follow these simple tips:

  • Choose magenta in naturally bright fabrics such as satin or velvet
  • Combine jewelry and accessories metal which by their nature reflect light
  • Lighten it up, with a touch of pink, but being careful to choose the one from the right family.

I hope that this small Vademecum may be useful for you to unravel the various shades of this Color Trend, which initially made me turn up my nose, but which (as always) when it comes to the world of colours, has managed to enchant me in its own way.
